On a beautiful evening the dynamic young Waldstein Quartet gave a concert of English music

for the Friends of St Mary the Virgin, North Stoke 29 July 2023

A very late piece by Elgar and a very early piece by Britten were complemented by their diary entries and letters. Extracts were eloquently read by Matthew Bannister and Yvette Byrne. The crises these revealed in each case, and the unusual circumstances of composition, served to enrich the musical performance.
